چکیده

Histologic chorioamnionitis occurs in approximately 50–60% of women with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). This condition is thought to represent antenatal inflammation/infection, which contributes to impending preterm birth and neonatal sepsis, chronic lung disease, and brain injury. Early and accurate diagnosis of chorioamnionitis is important, although it is limited by the fact that placental pathology cannot be evaluated before delivery. Several studies have attempted to identify rapid yet highly sensitive and specific diagnostic markers for diagnosing chorioamnionitis by analyzing factors in amniotic fluid (AF) obtained during amniocentesis, such as AF interleukin-6 (IL-6): this parameter has been reported as a significant predictor. However, amniocentesis is an invasive procedure with accompanying risks, and a decreased AF volume in cases of PPROM often makes it Non-Invasive Prediction of Histologic Chorioamnionitis in Women with Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes

Predictive Values of Maternal Serum Levels of Procalcitonin, ESR, CRP, and WBC in the Diagnosis of Chorioamnionitis in Mothers with Preterm Premature Rupture of Membrane

Background: Premature rupture of membrane (PROM) refers to the rupture of fetal membranes at least 1 hour before the onset of labor pain. We aimed to determine the predictive value of maternal serum level of procalcitonin in the early diagnosis of chorioamnionitis in mothers with preterm (PPROM).Methods: In this prospective cohort study, 48 patients with PPROM were selected due to limited finan...

Effects of Progesterone on Latency Period in Patients with Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes during 24-34 Weeks of Pregnancy

Background & Aims: Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) is the leading cause of preterm birth and perinatal mortality and morbidity, and complications. The objective of the present study was to assess the effect of progesterone agents (rectal suppositories and weekly injection of 17- hydroxyprogesterone caproate) on latency period in women with PPROM. Methods: This randomized, double-...

Histologic chorioamnionitis does not modulate the oxidative stress and antioxidant status in pregnancies complicated by spontaneous preterm delivery

BACKGROUND Infection induced-inflammation and other risk factors for spontaneous preterm birth (PTB) and preterm premature rupture of membranes (pPROM) may cause a redox imbalance, increasing the release of free radicals and consuming antioxidant defenses. Oxidative stress, in turn, can initiate intracellular signaling cascades that increase the production of pro-inflammatory mediators. The obj...

The role of antibiotic prophylaxis in preterm premature rupture of membranes.

Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) occurs in 3 percent of all pregnancies and is responsible for, or associated with, approximately one-third of preterm births causing significant perinatal morbidity and fetal death. Preterm infants are very vulnerable to respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), periventricular leucomalacia (PVL), other neurological se...

Neonatal Brain Damage Following Prolonged Latency after Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes

This study evaluated the risk of brain damage in neonates delivered at < 34 weeks following a prolonged latency after preterm premature rupture of membranes (pPROM). The medical records of 77 singletons delivered at < 34 weeks with pPROM and 66 singletons delivered at < 34 weeks with preterm labor and intact membranes were reviewed. Latency was divided into four intervals: < or = 24, > 24-< or ...
